Cruises are a very popular vacation choice for families, couples, and groups of friends, and their popularity is continually growing. They offer a relaxing experience at a great value and enable passengers to visit multiple countries, islands and destinations in one trip. With the huge variety and choices of ships, cruise lines, and destination ports, cruises are designed to fit the wants and needs of any and all vacationers.

Cruise ships visit almost every coastal area in the world. For the tropical island lovers, the choices of cruises are endless. Ships travel to the islands of the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida, Jamaica, and many more. For those that love mountainous scenery, Alaskan cruises, and certain northern European cruises offer some of the most exquisite scenery available in the world. For those that love art and architecture, Mediterranean and other European cruises visit Italy, Greece, the UK, areas of France and much more. For all of the above, world cruises, which last a few months, visit six continents and almost 30 different countries, will take you to see many of the world’s amazing beauties and wonders.  There are also various cruise lines that offer sail boat cruises and adventure cruises that cater to the slightly more adventurous.

Cruise lines can be separated into four basic categories: luxury, premium, mainstream, and budget. Each category offers different benefits which cater to different passengers’ preferences, needs and financial circumstances.  Mainstream cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Lines and Disney Cruise Line, are the most popular. This type of cruise offers good food, good service, good destinations and good deals, making it ideal for families, groups of friends in their teens and 20’s, and starting out couples. The down side to Mainstream is they tend to be much more crowded, because they are the most popular. Also, the all inclusive price doesn’t include alcoholic drinks or tips.

Luxury cruise lines such as Crystal Cruises, Cunard Line, Radisson Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn Cruise Line, and Silversea Cruises, offer the best of food, entertainment, accommodations and service. They also carry fewer passengers than the mainstream liners and are much less crowded. The downside to luxury is that it is more expensive then mainstream and they rarely offer big bargain deals. However, luxury liners usually include the tips and drinks in the fare price, so the price difference is not as drastic as some may think.  Note that most luxury liners don’t allow anyone under the age of 21 to board the ship.

Premium lines, such as Celebrity Cruises and Princess Cruise Line, are a small step below luxury liners in service and food, but are less expensive. The ships are not as crowded as mainstream, but more crowded then the luxury ships. Budget cruise lines are not as popular, and are harder to find. They don’t offer much luxury, but the food and service is decent, and the prices of fares can be extremely low.

When deciding on which cruise to book, it is important to find a cruise ship that will match your vacationing needs. The pages and links of this site will more in depth explore the options, pros and cons of various cruise options. Bon Voyage!
